About me
My name is Judy Bland and quilting has been a passion of mine for over 30 years.
I have a background in dressmaking and began patchworking when my children were small, to try to utilize leftover fabrics.
After many years of patchworking and quilting on a succession of Bernina domestic sewing machines, I stumbled across a longarm quilting machine while visiting a friend and knew somehow, I just had to have a longarm.
Shortly after we moved to the beautiful town of Bridgetown in the south west of W.A, I was able to lease a huge American Professional Quilting machine (APQS Ultimate XX) and started on a vertical learning curve to master the beast, the only one of it’s kind in Australia that I know of.
While attending the 2007 Quilting and Craft expo in Perth I fell in love again, this time with an APQS Millenium, top of the range and at a much more manageable size. I couldn’t wait to go home and convince my dear husband Ed that purchasing Millie was a really good idea. Luckily he agreed and Millie eventually arrived at the end of July 2007.
The XX went on to a new home and I set about getting to know Millie and well over 300 quilts later I am still discovering new ways to develop my quilting prowess.
In 2009 we added a purpose built studio to our home so my husband could reclaim the large portion of his shed that had served as my studio for 7 years. Now Millie has a lovely new home under the main roof which I’m sure will allow for much more comfortable and productive quilting.
I love all aspects of quilting and look forward to transforming your patchwork masterpiece into a beautiful quilt.
